Derschaun Sharpley, is the president and founder of Helping Individuals Succeed (H.I.S.) located in Detroit, Michigan. Focused on developing positive character in the lives of inner city youth, Derschaun launched H.I.S. in August of 2004. Her desire to effect positive change in her community paved the journey her life would soon unravel. H.I.S. is the manifested result of her belief that she is to be a light in the midst of chaos in the lives of children. She believes that youth lack basic everyday living skills needed in order to be productive in today’s society. The mission of H.I.S. is to empower young people to succeed by teaching them responsibility, respect and integrity just to name a few.
Derschaun is confident that in order to receive we must first learn to give and with a loving heart. Her calling was confirmed by a young girl in her old neighborhood who recently told her, "when I grow up I want to be just like you."
